Robert H. Schottenstein is chairman of the board, chief executive officer and president of M/I Homes, Inc., a public company listed on the New York Stock Exchange and one of the largest homebuilders in the United States. Based in Columbus, Ohio, the company also has homebuilding operations in Cincinnati, Ohio; Indianapolis, Indiana; Chicago, Illinois; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Detroit, Michigan; Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina; Nashville, Tennessee; Tampa, Orlando, Sarasota and Ft. Myers/Naples, Florida; and Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio, Texas.
For many years, Mr. Schottenstein has been active in a number of business and charitable organizations. He currently serves on the board of Installed Building Products, Inc., one of the nation’s leading installers of insulation and complementary building products; is the immediate past chair of the Policy Advisory Board of Harvard University’s Joint Center for Housing Studies; is chair of the Pelotonia Board; is a member of The Columbus Partnership; is a member of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Board; serves on The Ohio State University Foundation Board, and is a member of the board of Jewish Federations of North America.
From 2005-2014, Mr. Schottenstein served as a trustee of The Ohio State University and was chairman of The Ohio State University board from 2012-2014. He previously served as a member of the board of LBrands and BBW, Inc., one of the world’s leading specialty retailers focused on personal care, beauty and home fragrance categories; and as a member of the board of Huntington Bancshares, Inc., a large regional bank holding company headquartered in Columbus. In addition, he previously served on the boards of The Columbus Jewish Federation, Ohio Dominican University, Columbus School for Girls, Columbus Torah Academy, Ballet Met of Columbus, and was a member of the United Jewish Appeal National Young Leadership Cabinet. In 2002, he received the Central Ohio Building Industry Association “Builder of the Year Award.” In 2008, Mr. Schottenstein was named national “Executive of The Year” for the homebuilding industry by Builder Magazine. In 2009, Mr. Schottenstein received an honorary degree, Doctor of Humane Letters, from Ohio Dominican University; and in 2011, Mr. Schottenstein received an honorary degree, Doctor of Laws, from Capital University Law School. In 2022, Mr. Schottenstein was inducted into the Central Ohio Building Industry Association Hall of Fame.
Robert H. Schottenstein has an undergraduate degree from Indiana University and a law degree from Capital University Law School. He is married to Jeri Block, has four children, five grandchildren and resides in Jefferson Township, Franklin County, Ohio.
