Taylor A. Schwein

Graduate Student Trustee

Taylor A. Schwein is a graduate student in the BSN-DNP program at The Ohio State University College of Nursing. After earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing 2021 and her Master of Science in Nursing with a Psychiatric Mental Health specialty in 2023 — both from Ohio State — Ms. Schwein is now completing work on her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. Her anticipated graduation is May 2024.

Ms. Schwein’s studies reflect her lifelong passion for helping others, promoting mental well-being and giving back to the campus community. This is evident in her research regarding cognitive-behavioral therapy and mental health among adolescents. As an Ohio State undergraduate, Ms. Schwein joined College of Nursing Dean Bernadette Melnyk’s research team and has shown a great dedication to their work on mental resiliency ever since. In fact, she became the first peer-to-peer instructor of the MINDSTRONG cognitive-behavioral course, which teaches pre-nursing students problem-solving skills that are crucial for building mental resiliency. This seven-week course has proven to be effective for reducing stress, anxiety and depression in students, while also enhancing their healthy lifestyle behaviors.

As an advocate for mental health, Ms. Schwein was regularly called upon to share her thoughts and expertise with media outlets during the COVID-19 pandemic. She currently serves as a student representative on the university’s Commission on Mental Health Work Group. She is also one of a select group of students at Ohio State who were chosen to participate in the federally funded Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training Program, which focuses on providing evidence-based mental health care to underserved populations.

During her time at Ohio State, Ms. Schwein has also served as a peer advisor to fellow nursing students; a member of the Buckeye Student Nurses Association; and a devoted member of BuckeyeThon, a student-led organization that creates awareness and raises funds for children with cancer. As an undergraduate member of BuckeyeThon, Ms. Schwein served as director of family relations and vice president of strategic engagement. She currently serves as president of the BuckeyeThon Alumni Society.

Ms. Schwein grew up in Ontario, Ohio, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Ontario High School. She currently lives in Columbus.
