About the Process
The selection of the university's next president is the Board of Trustees' responsibility and nondelegable. For the purposes of the search, the board is utilizing a Presidential Search Committee, led by Trustee Hiroyuki Fujita, with opportunities for the Ohio State community to participate.
The Presidential Search Committee includes two subcommittees: a selection subcommittee and an advisory subcommittee.
The Presidential Selection Subcommittee (PSS) consists of seven trustees. The PSS works in concert with the advisory subcommittee, manages the use of external search firm Education Executives and ultimately provides a candidate recommendation to the board.
The University Advisory Subcommittee (UAS) is co-chaired by Jan Box-Steffensmeier, Vernal Riffe Professor of Political Science and professor of sociology in the College of Arts and Sciences, and Phillip Popovich, professor and chair of the Department of Neuroscience in the College of Medicine. The composition of this subcommittee includes faculty, students and staff.
The UAS is tasked with representing the broader Ohio State community to help identify qualities, skills, attributes and experiences desired in a candidate.
