Dimon R. McFerson, vice chairman, of Powell, Ohio, was appointed to the board in 2000, the same year he retired as chairman and CEO of Nationwide, based in Columbus, Ohio. McFerson joined Nationwide in 1979 as vice president of Internal Audits, elected senior vice president of Finance in 1983, elected president of Nationwide Property & Casualty Companies in 1987 and chief executive officer in 1992.
A Los Angeles native, Mr. McFerson is a 1959 graduate of UCLA and earned a master's degree from the University of Southern California in 1972. He is a certified public accountant (CPA) and holds a chartered life underwriter (CLU) professional designation. He was awarded honorary doctorates from Capital University, Ohio Dominican University, Otterbein College, and Franklin University.
He is past chairman of the United Way of America Board of Governors and past first vice chair of the American Red Cross Board of Governors. In the local community he is past board chair of the Center of Science and Industry (COSI), past vice chairman of The Columbus Foundation, and he serves locally as an elected member of the Olentangy Local School board in southern Delaware County. He served two years (1998-2000) as chair of the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. McFerson and his wife, Darlene, have lived in Ohio for 30 years and have 27 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
