Membership

Alan W. Brass, of Toledo, Ohio, was appointed as a member of the OSU board of trustees in 2006.  His career spans over three decades in healthcare and has predominantly been associated with large multi-hospital systems and with major academic centers.  Mr. Brass is chief executive officer for ProMedica Health System in Toledo.  ProMedica is one of the largest and fastest growing healthcare systems in the Midwest. 

Prior to joining ProMedica, Alan Brass served as the executive vice president and chief operating officer for the BJC Health System.  In this position, he oversaw the operation of the System’s 50-member merged and affiliated hospitals and six long-term care facilities.  He assumed operational responsibility on a system-wide basis.  In addition to his responsibilities within BJC, Mr. Brass was also president of Barnes-Jewish Hospital. 

Mr. Brass has held administrative positions with Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio; served as director of Operations at the University of Michigan Medical Center; and was administrator of Children’s, Women’s and Holden Perinatal Hospitals in Ann Arbor.  He earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry from Youngstown State University, and a master’s degree in hospital and health services administration and finance from The Ohio State University.

He currently serves as a board member of the Ohio Hospital Association – System CEO Advisory Council and The Toledo Symphony, Advisory Board Member.  He is a member of American Hospital Association; American College of Healthcare Executives; Children’s Hospital Executive Committee; Council of Retired Directors for Children’s Miracle Network; Health Management Academy - CEO Forum Health System; National Association Children’s Hospitals & Related Institutions (NACHRI); Ohio Children’s Hospital Association and Michigan Hospital Association.  Mr. Brass is also a faculty member at Ohio State University, St. Louis University, and Washington University. 

Mr. Brass lives in Toledo and has two sons, Mark and Glen.
