The Ohio State University Board of Trustees

Membership

Debra J. Van Camp, from Lancaster, was appointed as a student trustee, by Governor Strickland for a two-year term beginning 5/31/2007. Debra is a graduate of Canal Winchester High School, and is currently pursuing a BS in Food Science and Nutrition with a minor in Agricultural Business at The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. Debra serves on the Academic and Student Affairs Committee and the Agricultural Affairs Committee.

Upon enrolling at Ohio State in 2005, Debra became the first Fairfield County recipient of the Land Grant Opportunity Scholarship.  During her time at Ohio State she has become involved in undergraduate research and participated in a five week study abroad to the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science in Beijing, China.  Debra has also worked as a student assistant in the Food Science Lab and with the Economic Access Initiative. Debra strongly believes that improving college access is crucial to helping the University reach its long-term goals and to developing a stronger State economy.  As part of her work with the Access Initiative, she has created a Student Board of Directors to serve as the “student voice” of the office.  Debra is also very active in Undergraduate Student Government, and was elected as a Senator to represent students living off-campus during her junior year.

Debra plans to continue to pursue her passion of food science and agriculture in graduate school and hopes to pursue a career that will allow her to apply knowledge of food science and agricultural economics to continually improving food safety and quality.

Debra is the daughter of Pamela Van Camp of Marysville and Robert Van Camp of Groveport.
